Sediment/Particulate Replacement Filters

Sediment filtration is an essential tool in water treatment. Sediment can often be seen collecting in toilet bowls, settling at the bottom of a glass or collecting behind the aerator of a faucet. A sediment filter's main purpose is to help remove these particulates from the water supply. Sediment filtration is rated by micron size; the higher the micron the less it will filter (i.e., a 50-micron will filter less than a 5-micron). However, a 5-micron will plug up faster than a 50-micron. Sediment filters are often used as a pre-treatment step before carbon filtration, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet disinfection or, in some cases, used alone. Due to the various sizes and structures of particulate matter, deciding on a proper filter often requires some trial and error. The goal in sediment filtration is to find a filter or combination of filters that will provide the most filtration with the least amount of maintenance.
